Our design school features modern spacious studio suites with industry standard hardware and software attracting highly motivated students and staff from many parts of the world. The Whanganui School of Design (WSD) inhabits the beautiful NZIA Heritage award winning building. The building forms part of the Matapihi ki te Ao Whanganui UCOL tertiary education campus. Whanganui Iwi named the Whanganui UCOL campus to mean “Window of opportunity to the world” in Māori.
“All of us are focused on working through a process of creative collaboration, extending the boundaries of talents towards fulfilling our potential.” - Professor Hazel Gamec, Founder of the Whanganui School of Design.
The Whanganui School of Design was the first of its kind in New Zealand. It emerged in the late 1980s and soon gained an international reputation for experimental work in both time-based and print-based disciplines of graphic design. The Whanganui School of Design is part of the Universal College of Learning (UCOL) Whanganui Campus.
