The Whanganui School of Design has two successful annual internship programmes which requires its third year Bachelor of Computer Graphic Design students and fourth year Honour students to work on live projects for profit and non-profit organisations within Whanganui. The honours internship programme is called New Media Design which further challenges students to use the latest new digital media and practices to reshape the boundaries of the graphic design profession. Feel free to make contact with WSD if you feel you would like to be and internship client.
About Whanganui School of Design
Our school - Whanganui School of Design
Come and design in the heart of Whanganui’s new river front development on Taupo Quay.

Our design school features modern spacious studio suites with industry standard hardware and software attracting highly motivated students and staff from many parts of the world. The Whanganui School of Design (WSD) inhabits the beautiful NZIA Heritage award winning building. The building forms part of the Matapihi ki te Ao Whanganui UCOL tertiary education campus. Whanganui Iwi named the Whanganui UCOL campus to mean “Window of opportunity to the world” in Māori.

“All of us are focused on working through a process of creative collaboration, extending the boundaries of talents towards fulfilling our potential.” - Professor Hazel Gamec, Founder of the Whanganui School of Design.

The Whanganui School of Design was the first of its kind in New Zealand. It emerged in the late 1980s and soon gained an international reputation for experimental work in both time-based and print-based disciplines of graphic design. The Whanganui School of Design is part of the Universal College of Learning (UCOL) Whanganui Campus.

The Whanganui School of Design has seven programmes to suit many levels of creative learning and students. We have four Degree programmes; Master of Computer Graphic Design (Level 9), Bachelor of Computer Graphic Design (Level 8), Bachelor of Computer Graphic Design (Level 7) and our new Bachelor of Design and Arts (Level 7). Two Diploma programmes; Postgrad Diploma of Computer Graphic Design (Level 8) and the Graduate Diploma in Animation (level 7). We also have a Certificate in Art and Design programme (Level 4).

WSD is a national member of the Designers Institute of New Zealand (DINZ) and an international alumni design school speaker at the world renown AGideas Conference held annually in Melbourne, Australia. As a design school in New Zealand, our goal is to develop the questions that will fuel and inspire the field of design for the years ahead.
